Planting Guide
Plant: March-April. 5 cm of soil on top of the rhizome. Spacing 15 cm. Flowers July-August. Height 100-150 cm.
Frost tender. Climber. Perennial. Start in a greenhouse or conservatory. Plant the rhizomes in a 4-5 ltr pot, using a good quality multipurpose compost that is not to heavy. Lay the rhizome in the pot horizontally with the rounded edge pointing towards the outside of the pot. It is best only to have the compost slightly damp until growth starts, when in growth feed with a slow release fertilizer. The plant will need support, bamboo canes are ideal. They can be grown outside during the warm summer months, a sunny sheltered site away from wind would be ideal.
Once the plant has died back in the autumn, lift the tuber, brush of any excess soil, wrap in newspaper and store in a cool dry place. Replant in the spring.
