Eucomis bicolor. Frost hardy perennial. Summer flowering. Ideal for the herbaceous, also look good in pots and containers. This variety looks equally as good when it has finished flowering, each bud produces a pea sized seed, the plant also maintains its structure through to the end of December or when the first frost arrives. Plant: March-April with 1 cm of soil on top of the bulb. Spacing 12 cm. Flowers July-August. Height 30-50 cm.
Thrives in full sun or light shade. Needs fertile, well drained but moist soil. Ideal for mass planting amongst shrubs or in front borders where they can be left to increase into drifts. Also ideal for rockeries, pots and containers. Feed with a slow release fertiliser during the growing season. Cover with a mulch in the winter to protect from frost.
Propagate by dividing clumps when overcrowded roughly every 4 years.
