Lilium Candidum (Madonna lily) Frost hardy. Perennial. Candidum means sparkling white. Needs well-drained soil, choose a sunny site where the plant can catch a little afternoon shade this will preserve the colour of the petals and the flowers will last longer. Lilium candidum is one of the oldest domestic lilies on the market, and is extremely popular amongst florists, highly perfumed.

Plant: September-November. 18 cm deep. Spacing 22 cm. Flowers June-August. Height 100 cm.
Hardy. Perennial. Requires well-drained soil with plenty of well-rotted organic matter dug in. Choose a sunny site where the plant can catch a little afternoon shade, this will preserve the colour of the petals and the flowers will last longer.
Propagate: By dividing the overcrowded clumps in the autumn and replant at same time.
