Fritillaria Early Passion

£8.50£20.00

Description

Fritillaria Early Passion. (crown imperial) Fully to frost hardy, perennial. These magnificent plants need a site that is well-drained with half sun and half shade, they can cope with full sun but the flowers last longer with partial shade. Drainage is quite important; the bulbs are made up of fleshy scales which can be prone to rotting if sitting in water.   As long as the drainage is right these bulbs are very easy to grow, and will put on a magnificent display, growing to a height of 100 cm during the months of April and May.   Crown imperials have been in European gardens as early as 1665. The big bulbs have a strong smell; folklore has it that a garden where Crown Imperials are planted will never be bothered by rodents, including moles.

Bulb Size 20+ (top size)
