Fritillaria meleagris (snakes head). Frost hardy, perennial. Needs well-drained soil, but, soil that does not dry out. A sunny position is needed. They can be naturalised in the grass, borders or the rockery. Beautiful chequered bells hang down on slender stems at a height of 15-20cm during the months of April and May. We also hold the pure white one which is named Fritillaria meleagris alba. This plant grows naturally in damp meadows in Southern England, It’s so rare in the wild, I have read that there is only one meadow left in England, which is in Oxford.
